Rider Requirements

Keep the following guidelines in mind when assessing whether a rider is a good fit for transportation through HopSkipDrive.

Rider age requirements

HopSkipDrive is able to arrange rides for riders of any age. However, the following age-related requirements apply.

Age Requirements
0-3 years
  • Must be accompanied by an adult during the ride.

  • Accompanying adult must provide, install, and uninstall the car seat. HopSkipDrive does not provide car seats and CareDrivers cannot assist with car seat installation.
4-8 years
  • Riders who are not 43" tall or taller and 40 pounds or heavier must ride in a car seat. Learn more about the available Car Seat Rider Service here.

  • Booster seats are required for all riders 8 years old or younger.
9 -11 years
  • Booster seat requirement can be removed if the rider is at least 4' 9" tall.

  • Colorado riders: booster seats are required for riders 9 years old or younger.
12+ years
  • Riders may have the Can sit up front safety setting enabled if at least 4' 9" tall.

  • CareDrivers can require all riders to sit in the back as long as there are available seats.


Rider Services

Rider Services are additional options available to meet your riders' more complex needs, such as wheelchair-accessible vehicles or additional adult support during the ride. Enabling Rider Services allows you to manage all your transportation within RideIQ and meet more riders' needs while also providing the transparency and real-time tracking for caregivers that is available for all HopSkipDrive rides.

Additional passengers

Rides may include up to four riders. At least one rider must have Can sit up front enabled for a four-rider ride.

For safety and insurance reasons, all passengers in the vehicle must be listed as a rider on the scheduled ride. This includes rider caregivers. 

The ride as scheduled must accurately represent who is in the vehicle at all times. There is no safe workaround to schedule a ride where all riders do not share at least one location (pickup or drop-off).

Other medical needs

HopSkipDrive is able to transport riders with seizure disorders, but the CareDriver can only make sure the rider is safe and call 911 if a seizure occurs. They cannot administer medications or assist with VNS machines.
