Sometimes, you may notice slight differences in the fare for the same route. For example, a Rider's morning drop-off ride may be more expensive than their evening pickup ride, even though they are traveling between the same locations.
These differences in fare are due to differences in the estimated time and/or distance of the ride, usually due to traffic conditions.
Why does traffic affect how much a ride costs?
Sometimes the most efficient route is different depending on time of day, or traffic may simply mean a ride takes longer. Because HopSkipDrive fares are based on ride time and distance, you may see a small difference in the ride fare as a result.
Below you can see how changing the scheduled time of a ride changes the estimated fare. During the morning rush, the best route is along smaller side streets, while in the evening the freeway becomes the better option.
