For insurance and regulatory reasons, all vehicles used to drive with HopSkipDrive must meet a maximum age requirement. This requirement applies regardless of the condition of the car. In most areas, a vehicle used for HopSkipDrive rides must be no more than 15 years old. In certain areas, vehicles must be no more than 10 years old. See a list of these areas here.
If your car reaches the maximum age allowed while you are certified as a CareDriver, you must stop using that vehicle and replace it with a car that meets the requirements.
If you have not added a newer vehicle to your profile before the vehicle expires, your account will be paused until you do.
How do I know if my vehicle is about to expire?
You will receive an email from HopSkipDrive alerting you that your vehicle will soon no longer be eligible to use and providing a form to update the vehicle on your profile.
| Note: HopSkipDrive calculates vehicle age based on the calendar year. For example, a 2015 car will reach 16 years old and become ineligible in January 2031. |
