Pennsylvania law requires HopSkipDrive to provide a list of vehicles used by CareDrivers operating in the Philadelphia area to the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA). From this list, the PPA selects a number of vehicles each month to complete a vehicle inspection at HopSkipDrive's expense.
If you pass a vehicle inspection through this process you will not be required to complete another random vehicle inspection by the PPA for at least two years.
If you fail to schedule or complete this inspection, you will be prohibited from operating as a driver in the city of Philadelphia until the inspection has been completed.
Inspection requirements:
- No dents larger than 12 inches across.
- No loose body panels or bumpers.
- Exterior door handles are functional.
- No vandalism or spray graffiti on the exterior of the vehicle.
- The interior is generally clean.
- All seat belts are working.
- The door seals are intact.
- No tears in the upholstery that exceed 3 inches.
- The windows are operational.
- Interior door handles are operational.
- Interior lights are operational.
- There are four doors and the doors are properly aligned.
- The interior door locks are functional.
- A functioning air conditioning system capable of keeping the interior of the vehicle between 60 and 78 degrees.
Completing the inspection
If your vehicle is selected, sign up for an appointment to complete the inspection. Appointment slots provided are reserved specifically for HopSkipDrive vehicle inspections. Please make sure to sign up for a time slot as soon as possible due to the limited numbers of appointments available.
HopSkipDrive will pay for the cost of the inspection. You must bring a current and valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance verification to the inspection.
Inspections will occur at the PPA garage, located on 2415 S. Swanson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148. Please arrive at the address at your scheduled time and follow the instructions on the signage in the lot when you arrive to proceed to the inspection.
After the inspection
The PPA will inform HopSkipDrive whether you completed the required inspection and whether your vehicle passed or failed.
If you fail the inspection, your CareDriver account will be paused until a passing inspection is received. If your vehicle fails the initial inspection, you may return the same day for a second inspection at no additional cost if you are able to resolve any issues that caused you to fail initially. If you have to reschedule for a different date, HopSkipDrive will not be able to cover the cost.
Identifying information: License plate information and any identifying information provided in the lists given by the TNC to the PPA, or obtained by the PPA about vehicles or drivers under this inspection requirement, is confidential and shall not be subject to disclosure to a third party by the PPA.
