Some KIPP Texas public school rides need to be completed by two CareDrivers — one CareDriver claims the ride as the person responsible for driving, while the second CareDriver claims the ride as the ride monitor.
Ride monitors should sit in the back seat with the Rider and are responsible for assisting the Rider to and from the vehicle at both pickup and drop-off so they can be handed off to an adult. When claiming a ride, you'll be able to review the ride instructions to confirm which role you will be performing for a given ride.
KIPP Ride Monitor Guide
Step 1: Check-in for the ride
Both driver and monitor will check-in for the ride 60-90 minutes before the scheduled start time like they normally would.
Step 2: CareDrivers meet at the pickup location
Both CareDrivers arrive at the pickup location (which will be the school). The main driver will have the contact information for the monitor and is responsible for reaching out to them via the CareDriver app.
- Monitor: When you arrive, find a place to park your vehicle and wait for the driver to contact you. You can also head to the front of the school to wait for them.
- Driver: Reach out to the monitor via the CareDriver app. If you can't find them, head to the front of the school and wait for them.
Step 3: Follow the pickup process via the app:
The driver and monitor will get into the driver’s vehicle (the monitor should sit in the back seat).
- Confirm code word and birthday with each other, just like you would with a Rider.
- You will use the codeword "MONITOR" and the birthdate 01/01/00.
Step 4: Drive to the second stop to pick up the student
- Driver: Navigate to pickup stop #2 using your navigation. Park at the pickup location and wait for the monitor to escort the Rider to the vehicle.
- Monitor: Go to the front door to escort the Rider to the vehicle. If you are unable to locate the Rider, go back to the vehicle and call Safe Ride Support at (844) HOP-SKIP.
- Both driver and monitor: Both CareDrivers need to go through the Rider pickup flow via the app. Don’t forget to confirm their password and birthdate. Once the Rider is in the vehicle, press the “Navigate” button within the app.
Step 5: Drive back to school
- Driver: Navigate back to the school for the final drop-off.
- Monitor: Sit in the back seat of the vehicle with the Rider.
Step 6: Drop student off at the school
- Driver: Park and allow the monitor and Rider to get out of the vehicle. Once the monitor has returned, press the “Complete the Ride” button within the app.
- Monitor: Escort the Rider to the school. Rider must be handed off to an adult at the school. Once you have returned to the vehicle, press the “Complete the Ride” button within the app.
