To ensure the safety of riders, CareDrivers in many states are required to complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) as part of the HopSkipDrive 15-point certification process. This is a mandatory requirement — if you intend to drive in one of the states listed below, you must complete this screening before claiming rides.
What is a CANS Check?
Unlike a standard criminal background check, a CANS check searches a state's central registry — a database maintained by state agencies such as the Department of Social Services or Child Protective Services. This registry contains records of individuals with a confirmed finding of child abuse or neglect.
