Pennsylvania CareDrivers: Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) – Help Center

To ensure the safety of our riders, all CareDrivers in Pennsylvania must submit a Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) check through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (PADHS)

Before you start

Gather the following information to make the application process smoother:

Previous Addresses: A list of every place you have lived since 1975.
Household Members: Names of everyone you have lived with (parents, guardians, siblings, spouses, roommates, etc.).
Previous Names: Any maiden names, aliases, or nicknames you have used.

Step-by-step instructions

Create Your Keystone ID:
- Go to the Child Welfare Information Solution website.
- Select "Create Individual Account."
- Follow the prompts to create a Keystone ID (this is your permanent username).
- Check your email for a temporary passcode.
Access the Clearances Portal:
- Go back to the portal and click "Individual Login."
- Log in using your Keystone ID and temporary passcode. You will be prompted to create a permanent password immediately.
- Once logged in, select Access my Clearances and click Continue.
Start the Application:
- Click Create Clearance Application.
- Purpose of Clearance: When prompted for the "Application Purpose," select:
  School Employee Governed by Public School Code: Applying as a school employee who is required to obtain a background check pursuant to Section 111 of the Public School Code.
Payment & Submission:
- Follow the remaining prompts carefully.
- You will be asked for an e-signature and a payment of $13.
Upload Your Results:
- Processing can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days.
- Once you receive your results, upload them to your CareDriver Application Portal or email them directly to clearance@hopskipdrive.com.
