Rider Assistant Rides for CareDrivers

As you review available rides, you'll see some rides with a Rider Assistant tag. You do not need an Advanced Qualification to claim these rides.

Rider Assistant rides include a student rider and an adult Rider Assistant who sits in the back with the student to provide one-on-one support. Rider Assistants are professionals from local organizations working with HopSkipDrive, known as CarePartnersTM. Like CareDrivers, Rider Assistants undergo rigorous vetting, including background checks.  

How Rider Assistant rides work

The Rider Assistant will drive to meet you in their own vehicle, usually at the school or similar location. This means all Rider Assistant rides have an additional stop to either pick the Rider Assistant up or drop them off at their vehicle. Rider Assistants and their pickup and drop-off stops are shown in the app like all other passengers and stops, and are included in your earnings for the ride.

Rider Assistants are identified with a Rider Assistant tag in the app. 

Picking up and dropping off Rider Assistants

Meet the Rider Assistant at the pickup location shown in the app. To help them locate you at pickup, Rider Assistants receive the address of the pickup location, your first name, and the make, model, color, and license plate number of your car. 

When you meet the Rider Assistant, complete the identity verification steps in the CareDriver app: ask for the Rider Assistant's birth date and tell them the code word. The code word for Rider Assistants will generally be the name of the CarePartner organization they work for. 

Rider Assistants will also have a HopSkipDrive-issued badge and may be wearing an orange HopSkipDrive shirt (please note that the shirt is not required).

When you drop the Rider Assistant off, confirm the drop-off in the app to complete the ride. 

What do I do if I can't find the Rider Assistant?

 

Do not continue the ride without a Rider Assistant. 


If you cannot locate the Rider Assistant at pickup, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the phone icon to see contact information for the Rider Assistant. Call or text the Rider Assistant to find out where they are. Both your phone number and the Rider Assistant's phone number are masked for your privacy. 


     
  2. If you can't contact the Rider Assistant, tap I can't find the Rider Assistant. You will be connected to HopSkipDrive's Specialty Transportation Team for assistance.
