To ensure the safety of our riders, all CareDrivers in Michigan must complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) with a central registry check through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This check confirms whether you have any findings of child abuse or neglect on record.
How to complete the CANS check in Michigan
In Michigan, the Central Registry clearance process is completed via a specific state form (DHS-1929). Follow these steps to ensure your request is processed correctly:
-
Download the Michigan Central Registry Clearance Request form (DHS-1929) linked here.
-
Complete Section 1. Enter all personal information in Section 1. You must include your Social Security Number and any previous names (aliases or maiden names) to ensure an accurate search.
-
Review Section 2. The Individual Self-Request option will be pre-selected for you. No action is needed — simply verify this is checked before moving on.
-
Attach a clear, enlarged copy of your valid state ID, driver's license, or passport.
- When finished, click Submit Your Form at the bottom of the page. HopSkipDrive will then send your completed form to the appropriate team at MDHHS.
Timeline and results
