To ensure the safety of our riders, all CareDrivers in Washington State must complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) History Check through the Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). This check identifies founded findings of child abuse or neglect and is a mandatory step in the Washington State onboarding process.
How the process works
This process requires a handwritten signed authorization form. Once received, HopSkipDrive will submit your information to DCYF through a secure online portal on your behalf.
How to complete the CANS screening in Washington state
Follow the steps below:
- Download and print the authorization form linked here.
- Sign and date the printed form by hand. DCYF requires a handwritten ink signature. Digital signatures (DocuSign, typed fonts, etc.) are not accepted and will cause a delay in processing.
- Scan the document or take a clear photo of the completed form.
- Ensure all four corners of the page are visible.
- Make sure the text is crisp and legible (no blur or glare).
- Upload your form: Upload a clear photo or scan to your CareDriver application portal. Alternatively, you may email it directly to clearance@hopskipdrive.com.
Timeline and results
-
Processing time: Once submitted, DCYF typically processes requests within 5–10 business days.
- Results: HopSkipDrive will receive your results directly from DCYF. You do not need to contact DCYF directly — we will update your profile status as soon as your results are received.
