Monitor rides are a special type of ride offered only in select areas. Some organizations, including the School District of Philadelphia, require rides that include both a CareDriver and an additional monitor who rides in the car with the Rider. For these rides, there are two CareDrivers:
- The Main CareDriver: drives the car
- The Monitor: sits in the back of the car with the Rider
In order to claim and complete Monitor rides with the School District of Philadelphia, you must have the School District of Philadelphia Advanced Qualification. Learn more about the Advanced Qualification here.
The Monitor Ride Process:
It is important to understand the process before beginning the ride so that you are able to complete the ride safely and smoothly. The Monitor ride process is different from a regular ride and requires a specific sign-in process when picking up or dropping off Riders.
Step 1: Check in for the Ride
Both the Monitor and Main CareDriver check in for the ride 60-90 minutes ahead of time, as usual.
Monitor: ensure you have your SDP Badge and a printed sign in sheet for the ride. Learn more about the sign-in process here.
Step 2: CareDrivers meet at the pickup location:
Both CareDrivers follow the directions in the app to drive to the pickup location where you will meet. This is usually a school.
-
Monitor: When you arrive, find a place to park your car and go to the front of the school to find the Main CareDriver.
- Main CareDriver: Look for the monitor. If you don't immediately see them, wait at the front of the school for them to find you. Make yourself easy to find by standing outside your car.
| Tip: If you're having trouble finding the other CareDriver, check the app for a photo and contact information, or contact Safe Ride Support for assistance. |
Step 3: Follow the in-app pickup process
Follow the pickup process using the code word and birth date as you would with a Rider. Both CareDrivers get in the Main CareDriver's car.
- Use the code word HopSkipDrive and the birth date January 1st.
Step 4: Drive to the second stop to pick up the Rider
-
Main CareDriver: Drive to the next pickup listed as part of your ride. Park, following any location instructions in the app as usual.
-
Monitor: When you arrive, go to the front door and escort the Rider to the car. If you are picking the Rider up from a school, sign in with a teacher or administrator via tablet or paper sign-in sheet. Learn more about how to sign in here.
-
Both: Follow the normal pickup flow in your app, providing the code word and asking for the Rider's birth date. It is important that both CareDrivers complete the process in the app. When you're ready to leave, both CareDrivers should tap Drive to Drop-off to advance to the next step in the app.
Step 5: Drive to the drop-off location
The drop-off location will be the original location where the Monitor parked their car.
-
Main CareDriver: Drive to the drop-off location as usual.
-
Monitor: Sit in the rear of the vehicle with the Rider.
Step 6: Drop off the Rider
-
Main CareDriver: Park and allow the Rider and Monitor to get out of the car, following any applicable drop-off instructions. Once the Monitor returns to the car, you can tap Confirm drop-off and Complete my trip.
-
Monitor: Escort the student inside. If you are dropping the Rider off at a school, sign in with a teacher or administrator, as explained here. The Rider must be handed off to an adult.
Return to the Main CareDriver's car and tap Confirm drop-off, then Complete my trip.
Once the Rider has been safely dropped off, both CareDrivers are free to go their separate ways to move on to their next rides!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns while on the ride, our Safe Ride Support team can help guide you. Please call (844) 467-7547 or chat directly from the app.
