To ensure the safety of our riders, all CareDrivers in Virginia must complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS) with a search of the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry. You'll complete this process through the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) online portal — no notarized paper forms required.
How the process works
Once you reach the appropriate onboarding stage, HopSkipDrive enters your details into the VDSS portal. You will then receive an automated email from CRS Operations titled "Virginia Central Registry Search Authorization." Check your spam or junk folder if you don't see it within 24 hours.
Click the secure link in the email to complete the five required sections below.
1. Applicant information
- Enter your full legal name. If you have no middle name, check the "No Middle Name" box.
- Provide your gender, date of birth (DOB), Social Security number (SSN), and driver's license information.
- Name at birth: Enter your name as it appears on your birth certificate.

Aliases: List all previous names, including maiden names and nicknames.
2. Spouse information
- You will be asked whether you are currently married, divorced, or widowed.
- If you answer yes to any of those questions, provide that person's full name, gender, and date of birth.
3. Child information
- Disclose all biological children or children who are or were legally in your care.
- For each child, provide their full name, gender, and date of birth.
4. Address information
- Enter your current home address.

History: List every address you have lived at in other U.S. states since the age of 18.
Note: the portal does not accept or require addresses from other countries.
5. Acknowledgement & submission
- Read the consent release carefully.
- Digital signature: Type your first and last name exactly as entered in the Applicant section.

Click Submit to return the completed form to HopSkipDrive.

Fees & Processing
- Payment: Once you submit, HopSkipDrive is notified and will process the $12.00 fee to finalize the request. You do not need to pay anything.
- Timeline: Electronic submissions are typically processed by the state within 7–10 business days.
Results
- Notification: Results are sent directly to HopSkipDrive.
- Profile update: We will notify you once your profile is updated after your "No Founded Findings" status is confirmed.

Is there a fee?
No. HopSkipDrive pays the $12.00 fee on your behalf. You do not need to pay anything.
