When a ride is scheduled, it is posted to the marketplace for CareDrivers to review and claim. As independent contractors, CareDrivers have complete control over which rides they choose to claim. Once a ride has been claimed, you'll see a check mark next to the ride in the Caregiver app. Learn more about viewing ride claim status here.
However, from time to time a CareDriver may be unable to complete a ride they claimed and will unclaim the ride. This can happen due to:
- illness
- car trouble
- changes to the ride schedule
- other unforseen changes in the CareDriver's availability
What Happens When a CareDriver Unclaims a Ride?
When a ride is unclaimed, it returns to the marketplace to be claimed by a new CareDriver. As the time of the ride gets closer, HopSkipDrive will highlight the ride in the marketplace to encourage CareDrivers to claim it. In the very unlikely event that a new CareDriver cannot be found to claim the ride, HopSkipDrive will contact the Caregiver and Ride Organizer ahead of time to ensure that you are able to make alternate arrangements.
We understand how important it is to have reliable transportation. CareDrivers are discouraged from unclaiming rides unless there truly no other option. CareDrivers who frequently cancel rides at the last minute may be removed from the platform.
