During the winter months, inclement weather can impact rides. Be sure to follow local news for changing weather conditions in your area that could impact your upcoming rides. Ride Organizers may need to update rides based on last-minute school closures and delays.
Cancellations and delays
In some cases, when inclement weather has created unsafe driving conditions, HopSkipDrive may declare a snow day and cancel all rides in your area. You can read more about snow days, ride cancellations, and payment here.
Schools may also choose to open later to give time for road conditions to improve. You can read more about weather delays here.
Preparing for winter driving
When performing rides in winter, keep the following winter driving best practices in mind:
- When preparing for your rides, give yourself extra time to clear your vehicle of ice and snow.
- As you drive, maintain an extended distance from other vehicles and snow plows to ensure plenty of stopping room.
- Exercise additional caution around turns, school campuses, residential streets, intersections, and bridges.
