This article explains the updated policy for reviewing your driving record (MVR) in Washington state. These changes are being made in agreement with the Washington Drivers Union.
This update is effective October 21, 2025.
-
Standard Violations (Cumulative Limit): We will look back at your record for three (3) years for these types of violations.
- Immediate Grounds for Offboarding: For these very serious safety violations, we will look back at your record for seven (7) years.
The policy divides moving violations into two main groups: those that lead to immediate offboarding, and those that have a cumulative limit.
I. Major Safety Violations
Drivers who are found to have been or are convicted of any of the following major violations will be immediately offboarded (meaning you will no longer be able to drive with us).
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI/DUI)
- Reckless Driving
- Hit and Run
- Speeding in a School Zone
- Any violation that causes serious injury or death
- Eluding or attempting to elude the police
- Sex-related offense or being listed on the national sex offender public website
- Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License
- Not having a valid Driver's License
- Not having proof of auto liability insurance
II. Cumulative Limit for Other Moving Violations (Two-Strike Policy)
For all other moving violations not listed above, a simple two-strike policy will be applied. This means you will be offboarded if you receive your third violation within a three-year look-back period.
- Violation 1: You will receive a warning/coaching.
- Violation 2: You will receive a final warning.
- Violation 3: You will be offboarded.
III. Appeals Process
This update does not impact your right to appeal any violation counted against your record.
To have a violation removed from your record, you must provide proof showing one of the following:
- The violation was dismissed
- The violation was overturned
- The violation was adjudicated in your favor
