CB 119793: Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance and Taking Sick Time
Effective July 13th, 2020, CB 119793 is an ordinance in the city of Seattle, Washington that requires paid sick time and paid safe time for certain drivers who operate within the City of Seattle in response to COVID-19. Click here to view the ordinance.
- To submit a request for use of accrued Paid Sick and Safe Time or check the Paid Sick and Safe Time that you’ve accrued, click here.
- Any used Paid Sick and Safe Time will be paid out in the pay period following the date requested. CareDriver payments are processed every Monday, except holidays. If a CareDriver used Paid Sick and Safe Time off on Tuesday, the payment will be paid on the following Monday (or next payment date if it’s a holiday) and will be referenced on the CareDriver’s Earning Statement.
- If a CareDriver requests Paid Sick and Safe Time for a day he or she has rides claimed, the Community Support team will remove the rides as excused.
To whom does the ordinance apply?
CareDrivers who accepted a ride prior to July 13, 2020:
Worker begins accruing paid sick and paid safe time on the latter of (a) October 1, 2019 or (b) date of first trip, and shall accrue at least 1 day of paid sick and paid safe time for every 30 days that a driver conducts at least one ride; OR
CareDrivers who accepted a ride on or after July 13, 2020:
Begin accruing Paid Sick and Safe Time upon accepting first ride and accrue at least one day of paid sick and paid safe time for every 30 days that a driver does a ride.
What is Paid Sick and Safe Time?
Carrying Over Paid Sick and Safe Time:
CareDrivers can carry over at least nine days of accrued, unused paid sick and paid safe time to the following year. This is in addition to the Paid Sick and Safe Time they are actively accruing.
CareDrivers can continue to use any accrued, unused paid sick and safe time through March 31st, 2023.
