California Proposition 22 (“Prop 22”) requires that all California transportation network drivers, including CareDrivers, have access to occupational accident insurance coverage.
Generally, occupational accident insurance covers medical expenses and lost income resulting from injuries suffered while driving with the app and helps to reduce the financial impact on you and your family.
At a minimum, coverage includes:
- Up to $1,000,000 in accident medical expenses with no deductible
- Disability payments equal to 66% of the driver's average weekly earnings from all network companies, based on the 28-day period prior to the injury (up to $1,286.44 per week)
- For the benefit of spouses, children, or other dependents, accidental death insurance for injuries suffered while driving resulting in death (per CA law, currently up to $320,000 for eligible dependents)
Effective January 15, 2021, all California CareDrivers are automatically enrolled at no extra cost.

How do I report a claim?
If you are involved in an auto collision, contact our Safe Ride Support team immediately at 844-HOP-SKIP. If your injury resulted from any other incident, contact our Support team at driversupport@hopskipdrive.com to report the incident. In both cases, our teams will collect information about the incident and will work with our insurance provider to set up a claim.
How does occupational accident insurance differ from HopSkipDrive auto liability insurance?
The auto liability insurance policy covers third-party bodily injury and property damage from covered collisions you are found to be at-fault for. It also includes uninsured motorist coverage but does not cover benefits available to you under occupational accident insurance such as medical expenses and disability payments that result from a covered accident.
