CareDrivers are entitled to a “Driver Fee” for the Services you provide or perform for Organizers or other Users, as provided in the Terms of Use, the Pricing and Payment Terms, and pursuant to the fare estimates you see in the CareDriver application.
The Driver Fee consists of an applicable base fare, depending on your market, and a combination of estimated mileage after the first five miles and actual time after the first 30 minutes.
HopSkipDrive will calculate and determine the Driver Fee on your behalf after each ride. Driver Fees may vary from the Ride Fee or other Charges due and collected from Organizers.
Fare Estimates
At the time of claiming, CareDrivers see the Estimated Fare for that ride. The actual fare may differ based on the actual time of the ride and any changes to the ride details, including but not limited to: changes to the pickup or drop-off location; changes to the pickup time; or if one or more Riders in a multi-Rider service request are added or removed from the ride.
Cancelation Payments
If the Ride Organizer cancels a ride that you have claimed prior to check-in, no Driver Fees shall be owed to you for that canceled ride. If the Ride Organizer cancels a ride after check-in, you will receive 100% of the Estimated Fare at the time of check-in.

California Supplemental Pricing and Payment Terms Per Proposition 22
Consistent with California Proposition 22, effective December 16, 2020, the following supplemental pricing and payment terms apply to all CareDrivers providing Services within the state of California.
Engaged Time: All rides on the Platform are prearranged and CareDrivers have complete discretion in selecting which rides to claim. Engaged Time is the period of time from when the CareDriver accepts a ride request to when the CareDriver drops off the Rider(s) and confirms the drop off through the application. While a CareDriver may claim a ride weeks in advance of the ride start time, a CareDriver accepts a ride request once the CareDriver departs for the pick-up location, indicates in the application, “Start Ride,” and is within the metro area acceptance radius of the pick-up location. Engaged time does not include time spent on any personal activities, including but not limited to stops unrelated to the Services. ENGAGED TIME EXCLUDES ANY TIME SPENT PERFORMING THE SERVICES AFTER THE SERVICE REQUEST HAS BEEN CANCELLED; THE CAREDRIVER HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM A RIDE DUE TO EXTREME LATENESS (15 or more minutes late to the scheduled pick-up) OR OTHER INABILITY TO PERFORM THE SERVICES AT THE FAULT OF THE CAREDRIVER; ANY TIME SPENT ON A SERVICE WHERE THE CAREDRIVER ABANDONS PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE PRIOR TO COMPLETION; OR ANY FRAUDULENT USE OF THE APPLICATION OR PLATFORM.
Engaged Miles: Engaged miles are defined as all miles driven during Engaged Time.
Net Earnings Floor: California CareDrivers are entitled to a Driver Fee consistent with California Law. Driver Fees, as averaged during the weekly earnings period, shall not fall below a Net Earnings Floor which guarantees a minimum average weekly Driver Fee equal to at least 120% of the applicable minimum wage rate for all Engaged Time. The applicable minimum wage rate will be determined based on the Rider’s pick-up location or the State-mandated minimum wage rate, whichever is higher. CareDrivers shall also receive an expense reimbursement of $0.34 per mile for miles driven during the Engaged Time. The per-mile reimbursement rate will be adjusted annually to reflect any increase in inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers. If a CareDriver’s total net Driver Fee in a particular earnings period falls below the Net Earnings Floor, the difference between the Driver Fee and the Net Earnings Floor shall be deposited into the CareDriver’s account no later than the next earnings period. For purposes of the Net Earnings Floor, the net Driver Fees for an earnings period shall include all incentives or fare boosts earned during that earnings period, but shall not include gratuities, tolls, or damage fees.
Healthcare Subsidy: Quarterly healthcare subsidies, consistent with the Affordable Care Act (“ACA”), will be provided to all qualifying California CareDrivers consistent with the following schedule:
- CareDrivers with an average of 25 hours or more per week of Engaged Time in the calendar quarter, the quarterly healthcare subsidy will be equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the average ACA contribution for the applicable average monthly Covered California premium for each month in the quarter.*
- CareDrivers with an average of at least 15 hours but less than 25 hours per week of Engaged Time in the calendar quarter, the quarterly healthcare subsidy will be equal to fifty percent (50%) of the average ACA contribution for the applicable average monthly Covered California premium for each month in the quarter.*
* The average ACA contribution is 82% of the average monthly covered California premium cost.
Your weekly earnings statement will show the number of hours of engaged time accrued during that earnings period and the number of hours of engaged time accrued during the current calendar quarter up to that point. As a condition of providing the healthcare subsidy, HopSkipDrive may require California CareDrivers to submit proof of current enrollment in a qualifying health plan. More information is available here.
Loss and Liability Protection: California CareDrivers will have access to occupational accident insurance consistent with California Proposition 22 to cover medical expenses and lost income resulting from injuries suffered during Engaged Time, as well as accidental death benefits for spouses, children or other dependents. Additional information about coverage and opting in to coverage is available here.
