If you smell smoke or see flames coming from your vehicle while performing a ride, do the following:
- Remain calm and act quickly to safely pull over to the side of the road
- Stop the car and turn off the ignition
- Get everyone out of the vehicle and don’t allow anyone to go back to retrieve personal items
- Move away from the burning vehicle to avoid the flames and toxic fumes. Move at least 100 feet away and keep bystanders back.
- Call 911 to report the incident
- After speaking with emergency services, call 844-HOP-SKIP. Our Safe Ride Support team will contact the Ride Organizer to make them aware of the situation and can help get another CareDriver to the location to pick up the Rider and continue with the scheduled ride, if needed.
- It is generally not recommended that you try to put out the fire yourself. Opening the hood or car doors increases the air supply and may accelerate a fire.
