General Fare Calculation
The total amount you earn for a ride as a HopSkipDrive CareDriver is made up of a base fare plus additional payment for longer or more time-consuming trips. In addition, some rides may also be eligible for fare boosts or promotions. You can read more about how fares are calculated here.

Washington Minimum Earnings
Washington State law sets minimum per-minute, per-mile, and overall ride earnings for drivers using platforms like HopSkipDrive. The minimum earnings are based on the area you are driving in, namely within the City of Seattle or outside the city.
What are the minimum rates for Washington drivers?
The following minimum rates apply for miles and minutes you drive while a rider is in the car:
- For rides that start within the city of Seattle, you'll earn at least $0.70 per minute plus $1.63 per mile or $6.12, whichever is greater.
- For rides that start and end anywhere outside Seattle, you'll earn at least $0.40 per minute plus $1.38 per mile or $3.55, whichever is greater.
- For rides that start outside Seattle but end inside Seattle, you'll earn the Seattle rates for miles and minutes for the entire trip. The same is true for rides that start in Seattle but end outside of Seattle.
How does HopSkipDrive ensure all Washington rides meet the Minimum Earnings Requirements?
HopSkipDrive's fare calculations are designed to meet or exceed the required minimums. If for any reason the calculated fare does not meet the minimum amount, HopSkipDrive automatically increases your earnings to meet the required minimums.
Are boosts and promotions included in the minimum fare?
Any fare boosts that apply to a ride are included in the minimum fare. You will see any boosts for the ride included on the ride receipt when you complete a ride.

Promotions are not included in minimum fare calculations.
How can I verify that I earned the required minimum amount?
When reviewing a ride, you can use the estimated fare, ride distance, and ride time to check whether a ride meets the Washington minimum requirements.
To verify the per-mile and per-minute rate you are earning, navigate to the Ride History page, then tap the desired week to see a calculation of your per-minute and per-mile earnings.
