Safety is important — which is why open and honest communication between CareDrivers, riders and/or Ride Organizers, and HopSkipDrive is critical in maintaining the safest in-ride experience for everyone. Should an emergency or other incident occur during a ride, it's important to remain calm and assess the severity of the emergency.

Here are some tips for handling non-emergency and emergency situations:

URGENT MEDICAL EMERGENCY

(ex: injury due to motor vehicle collision)

  • Pull over to a safe location
  • Call 911 immediately
  • If you are unwell or unable to keep driving, do not continue the ride
  • Contact Safe Ride Support at 844-HOP-SKIP so they can help contact the Ride Organizer

NON-URGENT MEDICAL INCIDENT

(ex: rider experiencing motion sickness and gets sick in your vehicle)

  • If a rider experiences motion sickness or other non-emergency medical issues during a ride, do the following:

    • If necessary, pull over to a safe location.
    • Make sure the rider is okay and does not need medical attention.
    • Contact HopSkipDrive immediately to make us aware of the reason for the unplanned stop. If necessary, HopSkipDrive support will contact the Caregiver or Ride Organizer to inform them of the situation.
    • After completing the ride, clean up any mess. If there is any damage to the car, email Support within 24 hours of the incident. Learn more about what do to if a rider soils or damages your car here

BEHAVIORAL NON-MEDICAL INCIDENT

(ex: rider is disruptive and not complying with HopSkipDrive Community Guidelines)

  • Pull over to a safe location
  • Contact the Ride Organizer via the app unless the ride instructions state otherwise
  • Contact Safe Ride Support at 844-HOP-SKIP

URGENT NON-MEDICAL EMERGENCY

(ex: car trouble with rider present — flat tire, keys locked in car)

  • Pull over to a safe location
  • Contact Support immediately
