All CareDrivers must maintain automobile liability insurance on all vehicles they operate while driving with HopSkipDrive, with insurance limits equal to or greater than the minimum requirements for the state where they drive. Failure to maintain comprehensive/collision coverage could result in the denial of a comprehensive or collision claim while on an active ride.
You must submit proof of insurance to HopSkipDrive to be certified as a CareDriver. To remain certified, submit your updated insurance documents each time you renew. Learn more about keeping your documents up to date here.

HopSkipDrive maintains a comprehensive automobile insurance policy that is in effect while CareDrivers are logged into the HopSkipDrive application and either on the way to pick up a rider or while transporting a rider. Please also be sure to review these important driver disclosures prior to hitting the road.
Coverage begins whenever you are en route to pickup (you have tapped “I’m on the way!” in the CareDriver app) and continues until you have completed drop-off for your rider (you have tapped “complete ride” in the CareDriver app).
During a HopSkipDrive, you have the following coverage:
Third-party liability coverage
- This coverage is designed specifically for transporting children and meets regulatory requirements
- It includes up to $1 million in liability coverage per accident ($1.5M for Nevada drivers)
- Insures bodily injuries and property damage you have caused to your riders, people in other vehicles, pedestrians, vehicles, and other property
Auto physical damage coverage
- As long as you maintain collision and comprehensive coverage on your personal auto insurance, HopSkipDrive’s insurance will provide physical damage coverage for the vehicle for any accident for which you are found to be at fault.
- There is a $1,000 deductible that you must pay before coverage applies.
Occupational Accident Coverage
- Generally, occupational accident insurance covers medical expenses and lost income resulting from injuries suffered while driving with the app and helps to reduce the financial impact on you and your family.
- Learn more about Occupational Accident insurance here.
Uninsured motorist coverage
- Insures you and your riders, as mandated by regulatory requirements, if an accident occurs on a HopSkipDrive ride and the other driver is at fault but does not have sufficient insurance, as well as hit and runs.
If you are involved in a collision during a HopSkipDrive ride, you must notify our Safe Ride Support team immediately at 844-HOP-SKIP. |
